The Stone Barns Center for Food and Agriculture is a nonprofit, four-season farm and education center, located just 25 miles north of New York City, that invites young children with their parents to get their hands dirty (literally) and learn about the origins of their food and healthy eating.

One program called “Little Cooks and Little Gardeners” has families with kids as young as ages three to six harvesting vegetables, such as carrots, which they then used to make a carrot-based pesto. Another program targets high school-aged kids in collaboration with actor Adrian Grenier’s organization, SHFT, to create the Mobile Kitchen Classroom, a semester-long program that teaches teens about food science and history, food and the environment, food and justice, and food and community.

In this video interview, Sonima founder Sonia Jones sits down with Jill Isenbarger, the executive director at Stone Barns, to discuss these two important youth programs more in depth. Watch to learn more.
