Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer in the U.S., affecting some 249,000 Americans in 2016. While the majority of these new cases were found in women (about 246,660), men are not immune to this disease. Approximately 2,600 new cases in men were reported this year, according to the National Cancer Institute. In other words, breast cancer is not exclusive to a particular gender, such as ovarian cancer for women and prostate cancer for men.
