The disconnect between applying what is being taught in the classroom and taking on real-life situations has left many students searching for a purpose or passion during their undergraduate years. As one of the first universities to acknowledge these problems, the University of Virginia has become a pioneer in actively collaborating with experts to figure out the best ways to instill more contemplative practices into the minds of students throughout every aspect of their college life. David Germano, Ph.D., the director of religious studies at UVA,  explains that the university aspires to weave together the academic, social, spiritual, and physical aspects of life for all members of their community. This holistic approach to education offers students access to more self-help and self-growth tools through activities such as yoga, meditation, journaling, counseling, and other mindful practices. These plans are being integrated into every part of the community, even in common areas such as dining halls and dorms.
