When Amandine Roche first came to Afghanistan in 2001, she was detained by the Taliban, a fundamentalist Islamic militia, after President Bush announced he planed to bomb the country. In spite of this incident, Roche felt the call to come back and bring aid to the thousands of impoverished families who sought stability, education, and freedom. For the past 15 years Roche has devoted herself to peace efforts in the region, and more recently has began teaching yoga to women and children in Afghanistan. In 2010, however, when Roche was monitoring the elections in the south of the country, she began to interact with members of the Taliban. In this moving segment with Sonima founder Sonia Jones, Roche opens up about the first Taliban member who came to seek her help.
