Quality healthcare rarely starts and ends in an exam room. Some extraordinary medical facilities extend their services well beyond hospital walls as proven by the Dubin Breast Center of the Tisch Cancer Institute at Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan. In this video interview, Sonima.com’s founder, Sonia Jones, learns more from Yannette Tactuk, a clinical oncology social worker at the center, about the various ways medical workers can make themselves available both on- and off-site. In addition to keeping current patients engaged and feeling supported through activities—including a Crafts and Laughs night, a swimming club, a yoga group, a young women’s group for breast cancer survivors under 40, etc.—the Dubin Breast Center also hosts outreach initiatives where providers visit local communities, like East Harlem, to raise awareness about breast health and offer referrals for free detection exams, such as mammograms and biopsies, at the center.
